Ca. 19th century Burmese Shwe Zawa lacquerware manuscript box. The box is beautifully decorated with a traditional Burmese motif depicting temple guardians and sanskrit text (the language of Buddhist monks) in the traditional black and gold, shwe zawa gold gilt style. The box would have been used to hold manuscripts at the temple. The delicacy of the carving and gilt work on this piece are excellent. Overall the piece is in great condition. A rare and wonderful piece. Provenance: Private UK collection. Please contact us for high resolution images of the piece.
