1944 Four (4) Philippines Victory Notes from Series No. 66_x000D_The Victory note series was printed during World War II and was to be used when General MacArthur returned to the country. In 1942 he retreated from the Philippines when the Japanese invaded the islands, and when MacArthur returned with a large American force in October, 1944, he came ashore at Leyte Gulf supposedly carrying some of these notes in his pocket. In fact, the American army brought crates full of these notes with them during the landing._x000D__x000D_According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the number 66 was used for this series because that was President Quezona€?s age when he died just prior to the liberation of the Philippines. The notes were only for use in the Philippines.
