A carved steatite stone finial depicting a male figure with headdress and draped robe holding a fruit to his chest in his left hand, right hand raised in the gesture of reassurance, legs developing to a scrolled crest, two small wings to the shoulders flanking a scroll to the rear of the head; mounted on a custom-made stand. 3.8 kg, 36.5cm (14 1/4"). Property of a Middlesex collector; acquired on the London art market before 2000; formerly in an old English collection.
