19th-early 20th century AD. A large Gujarati powder horn formed from a polished pearly conch shell (possibly Turbo marmoratus lg species) with cylindrical extension tube covered in mother-of-pearl plates and panels at mouth having domed spout and silver stopper attached by double chain; with pair of brass and copper suspension rings to side 1.2 kg, 22cm (8 3/4"). Property of a Hampstead gentleman; from his family collection formed since the 1970s.
