Description: Exceedingly rare set of 30 broadside comic pages from the 1860s-80s. Numbered 13-60. (Previous lot in the sale includes 1-30.) Each measures about 15-3/4" x 11-3/4". Printed and hand coloured in France expressly for the Humoristic Publishing Company of Kansas City, Missouri by Jean-Charles Pellerin's Imagerie d'Epinal printing house. These historically-important graphics presage the format used by Hal Foster in his Prince Valiant strips by some fifty years, and are clear forerunners of the modern day comic book.
