Description: Pierre Villain (French, 1880-1950). Oil on wood panel painting of a nude woman reclining. Painting measures 13" high x 16" wide. Frame measures approx. 15" high x 18" wide. Signed "Pierre Villain" and dated 1939 at top right. Strongly rooted in European Social Realism, Villain's work shows influence by Robert Henri and George Bellows, and bears a resemblance to work by his contemporaries, Moses and Raphael Soyer. Several of his pre-war works are in today's sale.
