The archaistic vase is carved with two loose-ring beast head handles to the neck and shoulder, with a carved link handle surmounted by confronting kui dragons. The neck is carved with two dragons in high relief and the body is carved with a taotie band. The cover is carved with a kui dragon band and is surmounted by a coiled dragon finial. The vase is inlaid with coloured beads. The base is carved with a two-character mark.

The smiling Immortal is carved standing wearing scholars robes with his two hands in front of him holding an open book. His belt is inlaid with a single coloured bead.

Condition: The vase:
A small section restuck to the kui dragon handle (approx. 1 cm.).
A small bruise to the interior rim of the vase (approx. 0.7 cm.).
The Shoulao:
The figure is 19.90 cm. high without the base.
The figure is attached to the wood base.
Fine crackles to the ivory.
Traces of gilding and lacquer.
