Thai brown-patinated bronze Buddha head, the deity depicted with peaceful expression, slender lips, and sleek almond-shaped eyes framed beneath high arched brows that meet at the bridge of his curved nose, flanked by pendulous earlobes with out-turned tips, and surmounted by a flattened heart-shaped hairline of tight snail-shell curls arranged over the flame-topped ushnisha; now mounted on a pyramidal black-painted wood base. Head: 10.5" H; overall: 16" H.. Accompanied by a July 9, 1961 receipt from Ed Wiener, "Ed Weiner/ Thialand Buddha Head bronze on base / late Ayuthaya/ late 17th century." Ed Wiener, the famed jewelry designer, who along with his wife Doris Levin, sold Asian antiquities from their gallery "Arts & Ends" in New York City.
