A RARE LARGE BRONZE RITUAL TRIPOD FOOD VESSEL AND COVER, DING SPRING AND AUTUMN PERIOD, 6TH CENTURY BC The deep, globular body is raised on three tall legs surmounted by stylized masks divided by a flange. The sides are flat-cast with bands of interlocking snake motifs, the upper band interrupted by a pair of upright handles also cast with scrolls. The domed cover is similarly decorated and applied with four recumbent bovines below an openwork knob formed by six vertical straps cast in the shape of birds biting and grasping an outer ring border. The vessel and cover have a milky green patina and azurite encrustation on the interior. 19 7/8 in. (50.5 cm.) across handles
