The magnificent vase is superbly potted with a globular body surmounted by a columnar neck, delicately painted in bright cobalt blue depicting two mighty dragons ferociously flying amongst endless scrolls of leafy branches of lotus flowers above crashing waves. The three-clawed dragon is especially rare to see after latter half of the 18th century but quite commonly existed in various forms of imperial art objects in earlier year of the Qing dynasty, including the formal Portrait of Dorgon, Portrait of Schooling of Young Kangxi, and gilt 'Maoqindian' seal box. Both dragons are extremely detailed in dominant long horns, flaring mouth, muscular legs, back fins and sharp claws, posting an image of undoubtable imperial sovereignty. The vase is covered with perfectly distributed lemon-yellow enamel. Qianlong six-character reign mark on base, and of the period. 23" H. With wood stand. Provenance: Private collection of an important estate and thence by descent, Greenwich, Connecticut.
