Description: FRAMED 1842 NYC FIREMAN'S CERTIFICATE
August 29th, 1842 Appointment of John Hofstatter as "One of the Firemen of the City of New York", with engraved allegory of Neptune (for water) and Asclepius (for medicine) along with a woman presenting a check to a widow and child, contemporary pumper at bottom. Signed by John G. Giles (Chief, 1841-1881) and W.R. Tyler, in the original ogee mahogany frame, under rippled glass, OS: 20 1/2" x 26", SS: 13" x 18 1/2". Toned, water stained, chipped and torn on right edge, veneer loss to frame.
