Acrylic on canvas, framed. Featuring a portrait with flowers. Signed and attr. Lois Mailou Jones (American, 1905-1988) on the lower left corner. 44 x 34.5 cm (17.5 x 13.8 inches). Lo?s Mailou Jones decided early in her career that she would become a recognized artist - no easy path for an African American girl born at the beginning of the twentieth century. Yet throughout her career, Jones was relentless in her pursuit of the best training and fullest exposure to the people and places that would infuse her art with style and meaning. Jones died at age ninety-two. Her artistic legacy is recorded in hundreds of her canvases - and in the passion and discipline she communicated to some 2,500 students.?PROVENANCE: Private European estate
