The bowl is freely painted in underglaze blue and vibrant enamels with four alternating blossoming narcissus and chrysanthemum sprays. The interior is enamelled with a flower spray.

The studio mark 'Song shi zai' can be translated as 'the Studio of Pine and Rock'.
Compare an almost identical pair of bowls sold at Christie's London, 16 June 1986, lot 68 formerly in the collection of Michael S. Butler and also published and discussed in Richard S. Kilburn, "Transitional Wares and their Forerunners", Hong Kong, 1981, pl. 168.
Condition: There is a fine hairline to rim (approx. 3.3 cm. long)
Small chips to the rim and light wear to the enamels all consistent with age.
