West African bronze judgement chair, Mbamelke people, Cameroon, having a rounded figural back depicting male and female spirits, above a geometrically incised seat, the whole rising on figural spirit legs, terminating in a circular base. Chairs like this were used by the Mbamelke for criminal trials. The accused was to sit in the chair and the spirits on the chair would coarse the truth from them, 51"h x 24"w x 21"d.
