Zhu Yixiong (1923-2012) was born in Jiangsu province and graduated from Xiamen University in 1947. He studied and taught Chinese art in the Philippines for many years before emigrating to the United States in 1968. He became professor of Chinese art at Washington and Lee University in Virginia and was designated artist-in-residence emeritus after retiring. In 1978, he traveled to Taiwan where he painted many landscapes and subjects from the Taiwan countryside. In 2012, a posthumous exhibition was held at the Princeton Art Gallery. Zhu masterfully blended traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern western techniques. His work is included in the national museums of Taiwan and the Philippines and can be found in art institutions worldwide.
