Qing Dynasty Kangxi Period Blue Underglazed White Porcelain Vase W/Scholar Scene & Molded Handles (Has Artemisia Leaf Mark) - This porcelain vase is elaborately decorated in a vivid blue underglaze with an ornate scholar scene. The scene depicts a scholar seated on a horse, with his servants around him. The vase is finished with two molded handles in the form of horse heads. The base of the piece bears an artemisia leaf mark in underglazed blue. This mark is typical of the Kangxi period, as up until the early 1680's conditions were unsettled in China and the existence of Imperial wares as well as the use of reign marks on porcelain was restricted in various ways resulting in a number of marks which came into use.
