By Okamoto Ryozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th centuryBoth finely decorated in enamels and gilt, each vase with almost identical continuous outdoor autumnal scenes of momiji-gari (maple-leaf viewing) possibly in Arashiyama, enclosed within large rectangular panels, each vase depicting passengers being ferried across the lake in the foreground with elegant ladies strolling on the lakeshore in front of a thatched dwelling, other passers-by crossing the Togetsu Bridge, sailing boats and mountains in the distance, separated by vertical bands of densely overlapping and swirling brocade, the shoulder with tightly clustered millefleurs; each vase signed on the base with a seal Ryozan kore o tsukuru beneath the Yasuda Company trade mark.
