A Chinese group of embroidered accessories, Qing dynasty, late 19th century, including: a pair of decorative robe ribbons, a pair of cream gauze silk sleeve bands from a lady’s robe embroidered with scene of the heavenly gardens, three flat purses ,red, cream and coral silk embroidered with various scenes, one tiny purse with coloured tassels used to carry a precious trinket, a fine quality fan case embroidered with a large dragon on a blue embroidered and gold thread decoration and a pair grey silk Manchu lady’s shoes embroidered with white and blue leaf and flower pattern on a platform soleProvenance: From the collection of the author Mrs J.C. She became a lecturer in Philosophy, Comparative Religion and Symbolism. Her later years were spent as an author writing from her remote home in the Lake District. During her childhood travels, the family collected many Chinese artefacts including this group of costumes.
