Wood netsuke with small inlaysJapan19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)Raijin is seated with tucked up legs held with both his arms on a large daiko drum, which he uses to create thunder. His face is carved in an amusing manner, appearing as if he cannot wait to hit that drum again! He has fangs, eyes inlaid with dark horn and horns like an oni, made from ivory.
