The other, smaller kani is inside the clam and peeking out from an opening. Both crabs appear quite masculine with their dangerous claws and large, dark eyes – kani can also mean bravery and rank. However, due to their peculiar gait, these animals are also compared to usurers. Large himotoshi on the underside of the hamaguri. Ideal, compact netsuke form. The himotoshi show signs of extensive use.WIDTH 4.2 CMCondition: Age-related cracks, one inlaid eye of the larger crab is missing. Fine, used patina.
