A STAG-ANTLER NETSUKE OF A LOTUS LEAF AND GONG WITH DRAGON
Stag-antler netsukeAsakusa, Japan19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)A rather unusual manju netsuke in the form of a round lotus leaf with an upwards bent rim, appearing like a bowl, containing a seed capsule as well as a small mokugyo temple gong. The mokugyo shows a depiction of a dragon. The lotus is a symbol of Buddhist perfection. The leaf veins are crafted very well, especially on the underside, fully incorporating the staghorn structure. Himotoshi underneath the lotus stalk on the underside. This work would come from the Asakusa school.DIAMETER 4.1 CMCondition: Excellent conditionProvenance: German private collection
