Lacquer and gold inro with some silverJapanlate 18th to first half of 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)A four case inro crafted in the style of kacho-e. The background imitates wood grain, the depiction in takamaki-e with gold shows mostly prunus blossoms, also a gnarly, withered tree trunk. Peony and three flying birds. Signature HOSHIN with gold on the underside. The small, round ojime with gold lacquer shows a miniscule painting of a Shinto temple with a red torii.HEIGHT 9.5 CMCondition: Good conditionProvenance: French private collection
