A GILT BRONZE OKIMONO OF A SKELETON, MONKEY AND FROGS
Bronze with gildingJapanlate 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)The okimono crafted in solid bronze, with remnants of gilding. The composition is dense, depicting a skeleton resting on a monkey, with human clothes, holding a pearl in one hand. The skeleton is leaning on a staff and looming over the monkey. One frog is climbing on top of the skeleton and the other is by the feet of the monkey. The warts of the frogs, the fur of the monkey and the decorations of the clothes are accomplished with good detail.HEIGHT 8 CMCondition: Good condition, the gilding has been lost in some areasProvenance: Austrian private collection
