Kakejiku (vertical hanging scroll), in ink and colour on paper, depicting a procession of monks descending from a monastery, setting out on their daily alms round, signed Tsuchinoto hitsuji shunki(?) (painted in Spring, in the year of the sheep', [1859]), Kishi Chikudo sha and sealed Chikudo, in wooden box.

Note:
Born in Omi province, Kishi Chikudo was a Japanese-style painter who first learnt paintings from Kano Eigaku, then Kishi Renzan from whom he took his name. He was well-known for painting landscape and animals, particularly excelling at tigers. In 1896 he was appointed to the art committee of the Imperial Household.
