(2) Provenance: from a private collection, the calligraphy was a gift to the current owner's father, Li Bo Yan (1913-1983), by the artist, in appreciation for his help and support given to him during the Chinese Civil War. Li Bo Yan was born in Beijing, after his graduation from Yan Jing University, he became the Vice Principle at the School of Classical Theatrical Art, and was friends of great Beijing Opera stars like Mei Lan Fang. From 1937 to 1943, he joined the Chinese Government Foreign Service as a diplomat, first as chancellor in Poland and then as attaché in Turkey.
