Chinese Tibetan Ming Dynasty gilt bronze Bodhisattva figure of seated Yellow Vasudhara, with one face and six hand. Vasudhara, a Buddhist goddess of wealth and harvest. She is closely linked with Jambhala another important god of wealth. Vasudhara has many forms and is also depicted as the consort of Jambhala, a popular male wealth deity.
Vasudhara, yellow, with one face and six hands; in a manner happily seated at play. The first right hand is in a gesture of supreme generosity, the second raining jewels, the third with the hand in a gesture accompanying singing. The first left holds an abundant vase, the second a sheaf of grain, the third holds the Prajnaparamita text; adorned with all jewel ornaments.
This form of Vasudhara arises from the Togpa Chungwa and the Vajravali text of Abhayakaragupta.
Extensive trace of gilt, with blue pigment on hair.
The underside with incised Quatre-foil flori-form petals visvavajra mark surrounded the centralized DaiJi. Ming Dynasty and of the period.

PROVENANCE: Ralph Dewey (1917-2017) of Indiana. Ralph obtained a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Institute of Technology. He went on to work as a chemical engineer for Edmont for almost 45 years until his retirement. He also served as Museum President and Secretary for Friends of the Library, Chairman of Edmont investment Committee and President for the Hospice Board. Ralph was passionate about his hobbies, which included collecting antiques.
