Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty famille rose porcelain bowls. Deep curvature flaring upward to form the rim, with a slightly raised footing. The rim has a double blue ring around the inner and outer edge. The exterior is adorned with hand-painted peach abundant design, depicting variegated fruiting peaches amongst intricately interwoven foliate. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman. This Pair of bowls rest on hand carved hardwood stands raised from five cabriole tall legs, set within a snug fitting blue metallic silk wrapped hard cushion, protected inside a slide lidded hardwood box. The underside bears Yongzheng six characters reign mark and double fine rings in underglaze blue, Qing Dynasty.
PROVENANCE: Private collections of John Platts (1905-1985), second son Geoffrey Platts, of Glen Cove, Long Island, NY. Glen Cove New York is on the North Shore of Long Island and was the summer resort of the rich and famous. In the early 1900s Property was owned by F.W. Woolworth, J.P Morgan, John Platt and John D. Rockefeller. Many of the estates have been sold and are now operated as resorts. The Mansions of Glen Cove The Webb Institute was used as educational facilities and even the Soviet Union has purchased property for retreats for visiting dignitaries.
