Description: Emperor Daoguang was the eighth emperor of the Manchurian Qing Dynasty and the sixth Qing emperor, who ruled China between 1820-1850. His reign was under the sign of "disaster abroad and domestic rebellion", as well as the First Opium War and the beginning of the Taiping Rebellion, conflicts which nearly destroyed the dynasty. The procelain vessels decorated in strongly contrasting colours and vivid design are characteristic of this period. The dragons chasing the flaming pearl motif is common in this type of vessels, the aim being that of reaffirming his ruling over imperial symbols.
