Description: The Peranakan Chinese are descendants of Chinese immigrants who came to the Malay Archipelago, including to Malaysia and Singapore (where they are named Baba-Nyonya) and the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia, where they were called Kiau-Seng) and southern Thailand, mainly in Phuket and Ranong, between the 15th and the 17th century. The members of this community in Malaysia refer to each other as Baba Nyonya. The term ”baba” refers to men, while ”nyonya” to women. This set is part of the special items intended for the wedding ritual, its bright colours aimed at attracting wealth for the new couple.
