China, Northern Song / Jin Dynasty, ca. 12th to 13th century. Shallow ceramic bowl rising from a short foot to everted rim, interior splashed with streaks of russet reserved against a lustrous bluish-black ground, exterior glazed with black streaks with streams of russet ending just above the foot (iron oxide slip was splashed to create the contrasting russet spots, some containing silvery metallic flecks).
