Asia, possibly India, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. This is a wood box in the shape of a crouched monkey; it has small bronze components on the back of the box, the top of the head, and the bottom. The monkey's face looks scared and he clutches his legs to his body with his arms. This was most likely a snuff box or a betel nut container, so a personal item that someone would have carried with them. Size: 4" L x 1.5" W (10.2 cm x 3.8 cm).
Provenance: Estate of Paul & Louise Bernheimer
