Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 100 BCE to 150 CE. An endearing and rather humanizing figural group depicting a female figure and dog showing their affections for one another. While most collectors may be familiar with the puppies from the Colima region, the canine in this group hails from Jalisco and while similar to the Colima dogs, displays some differences in styling. Finely modeled with wonderfully delineated details. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture, rich in mineral deposits as well! Wood block stand. Size: figural pair measures 2" W x 3.5" H (5.1 cm x 8.9 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private Professor Peter Arnovick collection, CA, collected before 1970.
