Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A fine portrait vessel depicting an elite member of the tribe, a rather youthful male with large, almond-shaped eyes with painted pupils, a remarkably naturalistic nose, full, pursed lips, and somewhat elongated ears; adorned with a prominent, turbaned white-slipped headdress from which his long locks descend, impressed ear ornaments, and striated, red and white face paint. A very attractive vessel with strong, molded Andean features, and nicely slipped bichrome finish. Size: 5" L x 6" W x 7.25" H (12.7 cm x 15.2 cm x 18.4 cm).
