Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A handsome and unusual gourd or melon shaped pottery bowl, painted with a polychrome finish of red and beige horizontal stripes that delineate the numerous lobes or ribs of the melon or gourd. The bowl is deep with a rounded bottom and a raised pinch to the rim at one end. Size: 6.25" W x 3" H (15.9 cm x 7.6 cm).
