Far East, China, Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1279 CE. A very attractive carved stone plaque with a high relief depiction of a child in a dynamic pose. Note how both legs are bent; the left arm is raised behind his head, the right arm clutches his abdominal area, and his head is tilted to one side with the visage facing forward. The child is set against a background adorned with undulating lines representing vegetation. A rare and intriguing stone sculptural piece. Size: 7" H (17.8 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private Steinberg collection; ex-Ancient Art International, FL.
