Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A very large and lovely, hand-blown blue-green glass bottle with considerable irridescence and a fine swirling pattern throughout the globular body. Blown glass was invented in the Roman provinces of the Eastern Mediterranean in the first century CE. With this technology in place, glass blowers began creating some of the finest glass wares with elegant forms and attractive hues and translucency. Suddenly, the Romans could create vessels that were not only delicate and beautiful, but also quite useful for holding oils, perfumes, and other precious substances. Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm)
