Pre-Columbian, Nayarit, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This are three pottery figures painted with red and cream slip, seated with their arms crossed over their knees. All three have their mouths formed into O's, perhaps suggesting singing or chanting of some kind. These figures would have been placed inside of a tomb that was down a shaft below a residence. Enigmatic pottery like this are characteristic of West Mexico at this time. Size of largest (all are similar): 3" W x 4.5" H (7.6 cm x 11.4 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private collection of Dr. Peter Arnovick, collected before 1970
