A LARGE ARCHAISTIC JADEITE ‘DRAGON’ VESSEL WITH COVERMint green jadeite with apple-green, spinach and russet inclusions, openwork boxwood pedestal China, 20th centuryThis lidded jadeite vessel, reminiscent of archaic bronzes, has a thick wall with a dragon motif in high relief on one side and a four-character mark ‘Er Long Xi Zhu’ (= two dragons playing with the pearl) on the other. The accentuated foot features three linghzi masks with suspended ring handles and shows a stylized Ruyi bordure. The shoulder is flanked by reticulated dragon handles and the cover is crowned by a coiled dragon and has a total of six more dangling rings.
