John Dugger (American, B. 1948), "Grenade!", 1973, Chinese inspired stoneware vase with relief carved decoration of a crouching soldier holding a hand grenade, inscribed and dated to the underside in pencil, height 24 cm. Footnote: John Dugger styles himself as an Ergonic Messenger, in 1972 visited Moscow en route to China with a student delegation from the Society for Anglo-Chinese understanding. Dugger became the first American artist to visit China since the Revolution in 1949. Whilst in China he studied traditional landscape paintings meeting and being influenced by artists such as Sung Wen then Chia.
