The present Speedmaster is part of a limited series of watches created in 1998 to commemorate the historic Apollo XVI mission – the tenth manned spaceflight mission in the United States Apollo space program which was embarked on April 16, 1972. The mission was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly.
The watch is fitted with a special dial displaying the Apollo XVI mission badge in the subsidiary dial at 9 o’clock. Preserved in original factory condition, the timepiece is furthermore completed by its original “Missions” presentation box made of the same fabric used for space suits, a hang tag and a blank International Warranty. With its unique configuration and linkage to the United States Apollo space program, the present watch is a superb trophy timepiece.
