Description: Signed Japanese kazaridana or display cabinet, decorated in shibayama, of lacquer and inlaid mixed metals on a carved hardwood frame, having a yoke crest above a frieze of pierce carved cranes and auspicious cloud forms, surmounting a rounded cabinet with an asymmetrical arrangement of shelves and doors, all embellished in mixed metal inlay and gilt with panels depicting auspicious birds and flowers, including peacocks, prunus, chrysanthemums, and quail; baskets of fruit; and children playing with toy koi fish, the frames surrounding each panel decorated with pierced and relief carvings of parasol pines, and bamboo, the whole rising on a carved scrolling base centering a peony blossom and resting on a box stretcher, signed in the upper right panel, 73.5"h x 51"w x 16"d.
