AN ACEH-STYLE GILT SILVER BELT AND BUCKLEIndonesia, early 20th century 69 cm, the buckle 10 x 10 cmFormed by thirteen plaques and a larger buckle, each piece richly chased and pierced with birds amidst flowers and foliage. Provenance: the collection of a Dutch noblewoman lived in Indonesia, acquired before 1975.This kind of belt was worn by Peranakan Chinese on Java and Straits Chinese women on particular occasion such as wedding.
