A COPPER ALLOY ZODIAC BEAKER Indonesia 11,5 x 15 cm Provenance: the collection of a Dutch noblewoman lived in Indonesia, acquired before 1975.It is not yet known the function of this kind of zodiac beaker, but it seems it originates in the Majapahit period. A very similar beaker dated to 1361 is in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (inv. M.82.228a-b); see also P. Lunsingh Schleer - M.J. Klokke, Ancient Indonesian Bronzes, Leiden 1988, p. 45, and Art of Indonesia, New York 1992, p. 114, for an example in the National Museum in Jakarta.
