Description: A remarkable footed, shakudo kodansu with self-stand worked overall in high relief with silver, gold, copper, shibuichi and bronze. The chest's two front doors depict the Shikoro Biki legend celebrating the strength of the great warrior, Mionoya Juro Kunitoshi, who tore the shikoro (neck covering) from the armor of his enemy at Yashima. On the back panel of the chest, the presence of a brilliantly chiseled hawk continues with the samurai imagery - since it was during the Edo Period that this great creature became an emblem of the Japanese warrior class - bold, predatory and keen. Rectangular silver plaque of the artist, Kazuhide on cabinet top. Interior fitted with three drawers. Measures 4 7/8" x 5 3/4" Good condition with mild surface wear.
