A pair of tall Chinese ‘three star gods’ vases Of elegant form with slightly rounded sides, raised on a short splayed foot, the waisted neck with a wide trumpet mouth, superbly painted in famille rose enamels, each with two large foliate-rimmed cartouches depicting scenes in mirror image; on one side, the three Chinese ‘star gods’, or Sanxing are set in a mountainous landscape with old pine trees: Shouxing sits upon a fallow deer accompanied by an attendant bearing a peach, Luxing in Mandarin dress, and Fuxing in scholar’s attire, holding a young boy, they are accompanied by one of the immortal twins, He-He er Xian, who clutches a double gourd and trails a ribbon of coins; on the other side, a young beauty greets a dignitary coming down the mountains accompanied by his bannerman, she is depicted with four maidens, two of whom carry feather shades; each frame of the cartouche topped by a bat and with interlinking coins below, all set on a gold ground with scrolling lotus blossoms; a band of lappets at the base, the splayed pink foot with diamond lattice work in rose pink, the shoulder with a band of key pattern and intricately detailed chilong, the short flaring neck further decorated with blossoms, the rim with pendant ruyi-heads below a meander-pattern band in pink, the base with a red apocryphal seal mark of Qianlong.
