A DRESDEN PARCEL GILT AND PAINTED FAUX BOOK BOX, SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY, of rectangular form with spine titled Boileau Despreaux Le Passage Du Rhin 1668, flanked by acanthus cast gilt bronze hinges on a lid enclosing a hillside scene of Louis XVI and attendants reviewing a battle on the banks of the Rhine, within a parcel gilt conforming border of beaded and raised foliage surmounted by a classical mask suspending floral garlands flanked by scrolling acanthus and blossoms beneath a similarly cast acanthus hinged trefoil clasp opening to a damask padded interior enclosed by faux marble decorated sides.
