Nepal, ca. early 20th century CE. This is a polished light wood bowl decorated with large quantities of silver, including a piece that extends from the shoulder all the way through the inside of the bowl and another around the base. The silver has incised and low-relief designs including one showing a dragon in the base of the bowl as well as being studded with small, colorful gems. In Buddhist society, the giving of alms as a spiritual act is expected and welcomed between a lay Buddhist and a Buddhist monk or nun. Size: 4.6" W x 2" H (11.7 cm x 5.1 cm).
