China, probably Shang Dynasty, ca. 12th to 11th century BCE. These are two bronze "yue" axe heads, with wide flattened blades flaring towards their curved cutting edges. Both are socketed; one has a particularly clean shape and a more blue patina, indicative of a higher percentage of tin in the alloy. This is a nicely complementary pair that would display well together. Size of largest: 5.25" L x 2.9" W (13.3 cm x 7.4 cm).
Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the greatest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.

Both have excellent patina and wear to their edges, but have retained their shapes nicely.
