Oil/Canvas/ Maroufle from Bernard BUFFET (1928-1999) Size: 48 x 66 cm (18.90 x 26.00 in.) The overall size including the frame: 58 x 76 cm (22.83 x 29.92 in.) Signature /date: centre at the top. Provenance on the back. Bernard Buffet (French, 1928–1999) was a painter well-known for his Expressionist works. Buffet was a member of L'Homme Témoin (the Witness-Man), an anti-abstract art group. Buffet was born in Paris, France, and he attended the école Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Around the same time, Buffet also worked at the studio of Eugène Narbonne. As a struggling young artist, Buffet was supported by a French picture and art dealer while he was working on different works, portraits, still lifes, religious pieces, and landscapes. Buffet created more than 8,000 paintings and many prints as well. By Christie’s Shanghai China, a masterpiece “Deux clowns, saxophone” from Buffet was sold the 26 April 2014 for 480 110€ euro Hammer price.
