Dedicated from the artist on the back The prolific artistic career of Marc Chagall (French/Russian, born July 7, 1887–died March 28, 1985) spanned over seven decades. Influenced by Cubism and Fauvism, Chagall's oeuvre is consistent in his use of figuration and color. Born in Russia in 1887, Chagall moved to France in 1910, and became an integral member of the école de Paris. "Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is". During the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, a Chagall-like float with clouds and dancers passed by upside down hovering above 130 costumed dancers, 40 stilt-walkers and a violinist playing folk music. In 2010 an attribute painting from Marc Chagall was sold in the CLARS AUCTION GALLERY OAKLAND California USA for 11 802 € (15 000 $) hammer price
